There was a time when words weighed heavily on me—not words of encouragement, but of doubt, criticism, and discouragement. I grew up hearing things that made me question my worth, abilities, and purpose. Words that made me feel small, words that planted seeds of insecurity and fear.
For years, I carried those voices with me, allowing them to shape my choices, confidence, and even my faith. I sought validation in achievements, approval, and work, but no matter what I did, the weight of those words still clung to me.
But then, something changed. I met Jesus.
When I was saved, the Word of God became my foundation. I began to understand the true power of words—not just the words spoken to me, but the words I spoke over myself. The discouraging remarks were replaced by the truth of Scripture.
Instead of "You're not enough," I read:
"I am fearfully and wonderfully made." – Psalm 139:14
Instead of "You'll never amount to anything," I held onto:
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16
Instead of "You're weak," I stood firm in:
"My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness." – 2 Corinthians 12:9
That’s when I realized that the battle I had been fighting all along was a battle of words. The enemy had been using words to keep me bound in insecurity, but God’s Word set me free.
Now, I know that the words of this world do not define me. God’s Word does.
If you have ever felt the weight of discouraging words, let me remind you: You are not what others say about you. You are what God says about you.
So today, let’s choose to speak life.
📖 "The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit." – Proverbs 15:4
Jesus as Our Example: Speaking Truth with Grace
Jesus Himself demonstrated the power of words in the most perfect way. He spoke with grace, truth, healing, and authority—never compromising truth, yet always filled with love and wisdom.
Words of Healing
When the centurion asked Jesus to heal his servant, Jesus simply said:
"Go; let it be done for you as you have believed." – Matthew 8:13
That very hour, the servant was healed. His words carried authority over sickness, showing us that our words can bring encouragement and healing to those who are hurting.
Words of Forgiveness
As Jesus hung on the cross, suffering for sins He never committed, He looked at those who mocked, beat, and crucified Him and said:
"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do." – Luke 23:34
Even in His deepest pain, Jesus chose mercy over judgment. His words did not bring condemnation—they extended grace, showing us the depth of God’s love and the power of forgiveness.
Words of Boldness & Truth
When Satan tempted Him in the wilderness, Jesus responded with Scripture:
"It is written: ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’" – Matthew 4:4
Jesus stood firm on God’s Word, teaching us that our words should be anchored in truth, not fear or deception.
A Thought to Reflect On
Words carry weight. They shape lives, restore hearts, and bring freedom.
Instead of complaints, let’s speak gratitude.
Instead of fear, let’s declare faith.
Instead of discouragement, let’s offer encouragement.
What we speak over ourselves and others matters. Let’s follow Jesus’ example and choose to speak life.
Grace and peace be yours in abundance.
